* Please note, we will be closing the northbound entry slip lane at the Three Horseshoes roundabout and the southbound entry slip lane at Kitty Brewster roundabout from 7pm on Saturday 3 August, in advance of the closures on the A189.

When the A189 Spine Road is closed, the diversion will be on the route shown in the image below;

During the closure, traffic will be diverted along the A193 and B1505 (Horton Road).

We do appreciate the impacts that this will have on local residents and businesses on this route, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this will cause. We will be monitoring the traffic volumes and, if necessary, will install three-way traffic lights at the junction of Horton Road and Bebside Road to manage congestion. This would be staffed whenever in use.

Additional traffic management may also be needed on the Three Horseshoes and Kitty Brewster roundabouts during the works to allow construction vehicles to manoeuvre on and off the site.

The teams will be working around the clock to get this work done as quickly and safely as possible and allow the A189 to be reopened. The pedestrian and cycle bridge will provide Northumberland Line passengers with a safe and accessible way to cross the busy A189 and ensures connectivity to the new Blyth Bebside station and represents a significant step towards delivering the passenger service.
