We are progressing with work to create a footpath leading to the new cycle bridge as part of the Blyth Bebside Station construction. The footpath is located in the existing verge which runs along the ASDA Service Road onto Chase Farm Drive. This will include the installation of the new Toucan Crossing in the location shown in the image below.
From 4 November 2024 we will carry out ground investigation works and then continue with clearing vegetation and excavations so that we can lay down the hardstanding to create the footway.
What to expect
For the safety of the public and to allow our team to work safely in this location, we will need to implement a traffic management scheme in the form of stop and go and a single lane closure with temporary traffic lights. Traffic management will be positioned in phases as the work progresses between the ASDA Service Road and Chase Farm Drive.
Due to the location of utilities along the route of the new footpath, a large amount of the excavation of the verge will be completed by a Vacuum Excavator, which will result in some temporary disturbance due to noise. We will be working during the daytime only, between the hours of 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays, with some occasional weekend daytime work if required.
Any noise and local disruption will be kept as minimal as practically possible and will let you know if there any significant changes to the duration of this programme or shift timings.
The project vegetation clearance offset plan aims to mitigate environmental impact by increasing vegetation coverage on the project by 10% overall as compensation for the areas cleared.
