Works will start soon on the upgrading of North Seaton Level Crossing by replacing its barriers, removing the existing signal box and installing new signalling equipment.
They will start from 10pm on Saturday 9 March and will be completed by 6am on Friday 5 April. Works will be undertaken 24 hours a day.
Machinery including a mechanical excavator and power tools will need to be used for these works, and could cause noise, vibration and dust. To limit noise during the works, where possible equipment will be turned off when not in use, and battery operated machinery will be used. However, although these measures may limit noise, they will not remove it.
We understand that working near homes 24 hours a day is far from ideal and we are sorry in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause.
The works will require the closure of North Seaton Level Crossing to vehicles and pedestrians from 10pm on Saturday 9 March until 6am on Friday 29 March. A diversion route will be clearly signposted and a shuttle bus will be provided for pedestrians. The crossing will partially re-open on Friday 29 March and be controlled by traffic lights until 6am Friday 5 April.

Shuttle Bus Timetables
During the level crossing closure, we'll be providing a free shuttle bus to connect Remscheid Way with North Seaton Road and also to provide a bus link for residents on Milburn Road to Ashington town centre when the Arriva X21, 1 & 57/57a services are on diversion. The free shuttle bus will run on weekdays and Saturdays during the day, with Arriva buses running via Milburn Road & North Seaton Road on evenings and Sundays.
Arriva Bus Diversions
Buses on Arriva's X21, 1 & 57/57a routes will be diverted during the level crossing closure at North Seaton. On weekdays and Saturdays before 18;45, buses will leave Ashington Bus Station and run via North Seaton Road, Green Lane, Briardene and Remscheid Way rather than their usual route via Milburn Road.
On evenings and Sundays, buses will run via on their usual routes and divert via Green Lane to cross the railway line.
Customers from Milburn Road and Newbiggin Road will be able to use the free shuttle bus as an alternative link for Ashington town centre or to connect with Arriva Buses at Remscheid Way.
