Our next phase of works in the construction of Newsham Station is beginning at the start of February 2025. Works will take place across the site and are described below based on where they are taking place.
On the west side of the track and around the west roundabout, works include general site maintenance, minor excavation works, installing kerbs, car park works, and road surfacing.
On the station site itself (including the platforms and station overbridge), works include activities to prepare the station for opening to passengers. Among these are commissioning the CCTV system, installing fencing, surfacing, and removing the scaffolding from the overbridge.
On the east site of the track and east roundabout works include general site maintenance, minor excavation works, installing kerbs, and car park works. On the east side of the track, road surfacing will take place, as well as the installation and removal of temporary traffic management.
Work timing
The next phase of works includes some activities that must be done when trains are not running on the line. We will be carrying out work on midweek nights and weekend nights anticipated to start from 10:00pm on Friday 31 January to 6:00am Friday 28 February.
What to expect during these works
During this work, there is potential for some impact on people living and working close by, however every effort will be taken to limit this where practically possible. Any noise arising from the works will be within the legal levels under UK law and every effort to keep noise, dust and vibration, as limited as possible although some level of disturbance is to be expected.
Upcoming full road closure on B1523 (South Newsham Road)
Following on from our previous correspondence regarding the west roundabout phasing last year, a full overnight road closure will be in place to facilitate the next traffic switch on the west roundabout in the early hours of Monday 10th February 2025 between the hours of 12:00 midnight – 5:30am.
During this period, please follow the diversion routes as per the diagrams below. Please note that local bus routes and timings will not be impacted by this work. Local access to and from Railway cottages will be facilitated.
