The next stage of works for construction of the station at Northumberland Park require a crane to be delivered, built and moved into position on Algernon Drive. This work will take place on the evenings of Monday 8th & Tuesday 9th January. During these evenings, parking will not be allowed on Algernon Drive and alternative parking will be available and the details are shown below.
Traffic management for crane delivery: A186 Rotary Road
The delivery of the crane will require temporary traffic management. The crane will be assembled on the A186 Roundabout (next to the Pavillion) overnight between Monday 8 January and Tuesday 9 January 2024.
It will then be driven to Algernon Drive bridge overnight between Tuesday 9 January and Wednesday 10 January 2024.
The following road closures will be in place from 8pm to 5.30am on these dates:
A186 Rotary Road, diversion via Station Road.
Algernon Drive, diversion via Algernon Drive bridge (multi-storey car park).
Hotspur North Drive, diversion via Backworth Lane.
The traffic management will be monitored by staff on site and closures will be lifted once the crane is in place.
Traffic management for crane delivery: Algernon Drive
Once assembled, the crane will be driven to Algernon Drive bridge overnight from 8pm on Tuesday 9 January to 5.30am on Wednesday 10 January.
To ensure there is enough road carriageway space along Algernon Drive to allow the crane to travel safely to the bridge, cars will be asked not to park on Algernon Drive Road from Monday 8 January to Wednesday 10 January. Prior to the works starting, traffic cones and signage will be placed on Algernon Drive to deter parking.
We appreciate the impact this will have on residents who park in this area.
To help manage this, we have arranged for temporary parking to be made available for those residents affected in the Nexus multi-storey car park opposite the station, free of charge. During this period, the car park will be open 24 hours a day.
If you require the use of the Nexus multi-storey carpark between Monday 8 January and Wednesday 10 January, please contact us at rail@northumberland.gov.uk or call us on 0345 600 6400. You will need to provide us with your car’s registration number.
