Overnight Construction Works at Northumberland Park

Following our previous update from December 2024, we have now finished working on the front platform pre-cast units and have installed the underground utility ducting and drainage system, which included a below ground attenuation tank to help with the management of surface water. We have also started work on the foundations for the lift and stairs, which will provide access to the station platform from Algernon Drive.

Further up the site, we have built the majority of the retaining wall for the embankment up to Fenwick Close and begun re-instatement of the slope down towards the station platform. You may have seen that we have placed a number of large timber boxes in that slope; these will support the trees to be planted at a later date. Additionally, we have started work on the acoustic barrier foundations that will form the permanent boundary of the site.

Our planned works for the next few months will be focused on preparation for the lift shaft and the staircase installation. We will continue our focus around the Algernon Drive bridge area where we will finish work to the structure foundations.

Following on from that, we will install some temporary scaffolding to enable us to remove the parapet wall sections required on the existing bridge and prepare it for placement of the lift and the stairs, which are being manufactured off-site.

Overnight and weekend working

There are works to be completed close to the railway track which we can only do when the line is not in use and will require overnight works. This will include some remaining drainage works and ongoing works to complete the installation of the station platform.

Works will start from Sunday 30 March 2025 and are anticipated to take up to 2 weeks to complete. Works will take place both on weekdays between the hours of 8:00am - 6:00pm Monday – Fridays and on weekend days between 8:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday – Sundays. We will also be working over night during the week between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am.

What to expect during these works

In order to undertake this work, we will need to use a stihl saw, which may result in some noise disruption, but we will aim to keep its use to a minimum. Our teams will also need access to the welfare facilities which will require a generator to be used. We are aware that our works can impact our neighbours, however every effort will be taken to limit this where practically possible.

Any noise arising from the works will be within the legal levels under UK law and every effort to keep noise, dust, and vibration, is limited as possible, however some level of disturbance is to be expected. Noise monitors are in place and are checked regularly.
