Network Rail will be undertaking track renewal works in your area using a machine called a Tamper, which is used to make sure the track is level. The works are essential for the development of the Northumberland Line rail project, which aims to improve connectivity and accessibility in South East Northumberland by bringing passenger trains back into service between Ashington and Newcastle.
The works are anticipated to take place from 9pm Saturday 24 August to 9pm Sunday 25 August.
These works will take place 24 hours a day, however the works will form part of moving work site so will not be by your property for the full duration. Unfortunately, this type of work can be noisy and we will limit noise wherever feasible, including by turning equipment off when not in use and using battery operated machinery. However, some disruption will be unavoidable.
Bedlington South Level Crossing will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians during the works. A diversionary route, which has been agreed with the council, will be in place for your convenience. A free shuttle bus will be provided for pedestrians.
The X21 and 2 bus services will also be using a diversion route during the closure, with X21 not missing any stops and the 2 not serving between the level crossing and the A1147.

We understand that working near your homes and working overnight is far from ideal and we am sorry in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause. Our teams have been briefed and will be mindful when carrying out this work, making sure all the relevant mitigations are in place to avoid excess noise. We will also continue to keep you updated with any work taking place near to your homes.
For any queries about this track work and associated road closures please call the Network Rail National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41, which is available 24/7.
