In order to reduce mid-week overnight works and complete works as quickly as possible, we are aiming to complete these activities during a “possession”, which is a pre-booked period when trains cannot run on the line. This allows continuous access to the track for longer periods of time.
The work taking place during these possessions is to prepare the site for the installation of the platform, which will take place later this year. Please note that a previous letter included reference to platform installation works in late August and early September; we apologise that this was incorrect, and all works undertaken in August have been preparatory works.
Track drainage works and excavation to remove concrete within the track will be carried out on the following dates and times:
10.30pm on Thursday 5 September to 5.30am on Monday 9 September.
10.30pm on Friday 20 September to 5.30am on Monday 23 September.
10.30pm on Saturday 5 October to 5.30am on Monday 7 October.
During the possessions starting on Friday 20 September and Saturday 5 October, Road Rail Vehicles will need to access the work site at Northumberland Park via Holywell level crossing (Church Road, Backworth), as illustrated below. This means that Holywell Level Crossing will be temporarily closed for vehicles and pedestrians for periods up to 15 minutes during the works. There will be no more than one closure per hour, and they will only be undertaken when necessary to ensure the works are completed safely.
A single lane closure (see below) controlled by temporary 2-way traffic signals will be in place on Church Road to facilitate the loading and unloading of equipment for the duration of these possessions.
What to expect during the works
During this work there is potential for noise, site lighting and vibration, but we will aim to keep disruption as minimal as practically possible and within the terms agreed with North Tyneside Council. We have continuous noise monitoring equipment installed onsite to capture in real-time the noise levels being generated.
We understand that working near your property and working at weekends and overnight is far from ideal, and we apologise in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause.
