Upcoming Roadworks at Newsham

As part of the development of the new station at Newsham, there will be some upcoming works which will include overnight working on the west roundabout (towards Cramlington) to realign the road and remove the old west roundabout.

Works on the west roundabout will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am, starting at 8pm Tuesday 22 April and finishing at 6am Saturday 3 May 2025 in the area shown in Image one below. The team will be working on weekday nights only and it will require full road closures. These works will involve excavation, drainage installation, removal of existing surfaces, and laying tarmac.

The works on Friday 2 May 2025 from 8pm – 6am overnight, will involve resetting the traffic management for next stage of the road and roundabout works.

During the road closures, a diversion will be in place via Rotary Way and Plessey Road as shown in the image below. Access for residents of Railway Cottages will be maintained.

Upcoming works - east roundabout

From Wednesday 23 April 2025 – Friday 25 April 2025 there will be traffic lights in the form of three-way lights on east between 9:30am – 3:30pm for sign installation and cable pulling on South Newsham Road.

What to expect during these works

During this work, there is potential for disturbance for people living and working close by, from drainage works, excavation and surfacing, which requires specialist machinery. This work must be carried out at night to minimise disruption as the works require full road closures. Every effort will be taken to limit disruption where practically possible. Any noise arising from the works will be within the legal levels under UK law and every effort to keep noise, dust and vibration, as limited as possible although some level of disturbance is to be expected.

Bus diversion

As part of the above works in relation to the station, we will have a number of road closures that will affect the bus route. The X10 will use Laverock Hall Road bus link and the stops on Park Farm Villas will temporarily be suspended.
